Edun Pre-Fall 2010 collection WANTED!!

Delectable, ain't it?

Well, with the exception of a few pieces, you could probably recreate these Edun looks by shopping your closet a little. But I can't help wanting it all, which means that the people styling Edun's lookbook has done a marvelous job of creating the air of allure that mystifies the product of fashion. Plus, it's youthful AND sophistication. That is, ages from 18 to 38 are all looking to wear these. Edun is just casual enough to live in and just edgy enough to stomp in... ... ...I really do want them all.

Edun is organic and eco-friendly. So why not?

Z Spoke at Saks Fifth Launched

I posted about Zac Posen's Target collection (coming out in April) earlier this month, and mentioned that Zac Posen is also coming out with a lower price line collection called Z Spoke. They were very efficient and the collection is already out! Go to Saks Fifth to take a look at the collection, which is priced between $98 and $575.

Here are my favorite pieces as a teaser:

1970s Wayne Clark Goddess Dress

My lust-of-the-day item is this vintage Wayne Clark Goddess Dress ($250 at Shrimpton Couture). For those of you who do not know Wayne Clark, he is Canadian and he shows up as a guest judge on Project Runway Canada.

He apprenticed with Hardy Amies and Ossie Clark in London, England. and is known for his fabric use, cut, draping, and glamorous bias-cut gowns. This goddess dress would be from one of his first collections since he started his label in the late 70's. Having had that much history in fashion, Wayne Clark's work has been put on exhibition in gallery before. Click here to read more about the inner workings of the man.

Ah, the royal blue is so amazing and the dress so easy to love. For those of you who spent money buying flowers that will die in a matter of days for your valentine, well...really...you could have done better.

Get your feet wet in the Lacey Trend

I've never been a very delicate person and I'm the type of person that would literally destroy my clothes with my rough and clumsy ways (albeit entirely unintentional). Recently, it struck me that LACE is becoming big in fashion. There was Stella McCartney and her lacey creations in the limelight last year. And now, people are layering the delicate fabric on during fashion week (ref: refinery29). And can I say "tres cute"?

So here's a feminine tunic with sheer Chantilly lace (and a low v-back) that you can try out for this new lacey trend. Why? Well, a tunic is very versatile and as a layering item, you don't have to worry about appearing too delicate, or becoming too cold. (Yes, a part of me is convincing myself that I need this discounted lace tunic).

On the other hand, there's also this beautiful Carolina Herrera lace dress on Gilt Groupe today, but it's really a standout piece that you can only wear for formal events. Ah well...none in my size anyway (phew)...

Helmut Lang Gray Leather Quilted Jacket

Here's my lust-of-the-day item. As you can tell, I'm very much into the high-fashion spring neutral shades of GRAY right now. Yesterday, my lust manifested in the shape of a silver lizard boxy clutch by Nancy Gonzalez. Today, it is this amazing lamb leather long sleeve jacket by Helmut Lang.

Don't be thrown off by the "quilted" part. It is definitely not grandma's quilts. The quilted details at the sides actually helps draw the eyes to your waist so that you don't look like a sack of potatoes in this generally unstructured jacket. Helmut Lang is known for making clothes in simple geometric shapes that defines cool chic. I have long wanted a Helmut Lang piece and this would be perfect as a easy-to-wear, go-to item to top off all my outfits...At more than 60% off, I'm really wish I have the money to take this deal off the market RIGHT NOW!! A lot of the other Helmut Lang items have sold out on the Gilt Groupe sale.

Zac Posen for Target LookBook

photos taken from fashionista

Zac Posen may be facing financial troubles with the economical downturn, but this collection that is coming out at Target on April 25th, 2010 is simply AMAZING~~. All the pieces are extremely wearable and there are so many pieces I want. Although, I have to say, some of the pieces remind me a little of American Apparel and Urban Outfitters. My favorites are definitely the gown with safety-pin print and the one-piece swimsuit in tie-dye print.

The designer is only 29 years old, which is my age, and had risen to fame very quickly in the past. Now we hear the name "Zac Posen" and we think "beautiful dresses". Zac is also coming out with a lower price line collection called Z Spoke that will hit Saks Fifth Avenue stores on March 1st.

Morgane Le Fay Trunk Show Feb 2010

-----from fashionrules.com-----
Morgane Le Fay, the NY based gown, eveningwear and bridal company – Sarah Jessica Parker was married in a Morgane Le Fay, and it’s the favored brand of Stevie Nicks and Helen Mirren – has two stores in the Los Angeles area: Montana Avenue and 14th St in Los Angeles, and at Cross Creek in Malibu. Designer Liliana Casabel is coming to L.A. next week to do a trunk show of her bridal collections for spring – and they are ethereal, unusual and really special and romantic. If you are in the market for a wedding gown – or if you want to just check out the heavenly Morgane Le Fay spring collection of dresses, the trunk show will be going on Feb 4 Thursday, and Feb 5 Friday on 14th and Montana from 10 to 6 pm. The Malibu show is Feb 6 and 7, and there’s more info on morganelefay.com.
____________________

So the story is, chibi and I love Morgane Le Fay dresses. And we have to buy a dress for me to satisfy the Chinese tradition of gift exchange during our engagement. I could go get a Valentino dress, but it wouldn't be Morgane Le Fay, would it? What we love about Morgane Le Fay is how ethereal and unusual it is, which helps balance out the romantic part of the dresses as we hate overdosing on sappiness. And there is a trunk show coming up! Perfect!

The only problem is color. The criteria for this dress is as follows:
(1) Does not expose too much skin (can't be too short or sheer, can't even be strapless)
(2) Looks good (duh~)
(3) Is something I would wear again and again till 50 years later (or a very long time).

Since a dress is usually worn to parties, a lot of which are usually weddings or what not, white and black are not the best colors to wear according to Chinese customs. That's bad news, because the white frocks of Spring/Summer 2010 from Morgan are my favorites... Well, to explore the possibility of still getting a dress at the trunk show, I looked up the collection again and here are the dresses in color that might fit the criteria.

So what do you think, chibi? Is it possible?

ABS Black Lace Brocade - To keep or not to keep

I just bought a black lace brocade ABS dress from Hautelook and it just came in the mail. Size 6 is apparently WAY TOO BIG for me. I really don't know what to do, I can get it altered, of course. But for my purposes (to wear to my engagement dinner), would this be too dark and not auspicious enough? What do you think?

Sabo Shop Photoshoot and Unique LA

I apologize for not blogging for a week there, what with black friday, cyber monday, and Bloomingdales sales. I got a new Canon SD 780IS in RED (my fave color), a Hugo Boss suit for chibi (how dashing!), and presents for chibi's family in Taiwan.

Other than that, chibi and I were also busy doing a last minute shoot for Sabo Shop's Holiday'09 collection last week. Despite the thrown-together studio at our Santa Monica place with inadequate backdrop and lighting, chibi did an excellent job photographing everything and then editing them in post-production.

First, he photographed each piece in isolation. Then, Sabrina from Sabo Shop (girl in white below) styled and directed the model shoot.

Here are some of my favorite unedited shots from the shoot that did not make it into the final shots:

This last one chibi took as I was walking away, and I looked like a nonchalant passerby. I thought that was really cool.

Now, if you look carefully at the unedited photos, you will see the line running down the middle on the backdrop. The story for that is, chibi bought a pipe from OSH the morning of the shoot and extended Sabrina's white paper backdrop to make it broad enough for the shoot. We had gotten another girl to be the model, but she had a neck accident and couldn't make it, so I had to fill in. I was REALLY glad Sabrina had many wigs and huge glasses to hide my face. I also gave chibi quite a big of trouble not keeping to my spot in front of the backdrop.

Last thing I'll say is, the clothing line from SABO was incredibly comfortable to wear and easy to layer together!! I also loved the jewelry and body jewelry from v from vera wong and Metal and Hyde. I went to the UNIQUE LA marketplace over the weekend to help out at their booth and it was tons of fun! See Sabrina's facebook for more photos!
