In this terrible economy where even Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffet's company) suffered their first terrible year since their inception in 1965, almost everyone feels somber not knowing how much broader and deeper this recession will run. This is the best time to fall back on frugality and basic wardrobe choices. Of course, basic doesn't mean drape.
I've been impressed in the past with Old Navy partly because of the choices of colors they have there, and partly because they really do have reasonable prices. Also, Old Navy have sales that make their apparel even more affordable. The Fundamental sale is now on till March 12th and have great versatile pieces like the camisole below.

Nude is also a big trend in the spring, especially in this environment because it will go from spring to fall easily. Old Navy's fundamental sale has cardigans, henleys, hoodies, and jackets to keep you warm if and when the weather remain chilly. Remember that falling ill will also cost you money! LOVE Marchesa to death (also love Notte by Marchesa!). Thought Marchesa's Fall '09 collection was a collection of over-the-top, only-for-big-events fantasy gowns. More photos at Fabsugar.
Anyway, I melted in places I didn't know exist inside of me when I saw this lavender gown with billowing layers on the side, bandaged front with metallic base shining through, and a soft piece falling off the side of one arm. What a dream. My heart beats like a drum just to herald this piece. I would like to wear this to my wedding please... ... ...

In other news, Reem Acra went for a private viewing for the Fall'09 collection, and great dresses were shown there too. These are, of course, future vintage dresses that are so delectable that people would still buy them in a depression. Probably.

Badgley Mischka Platinum Red Halter Dress
Please dress me up in this Badgley Mischka Platinum dress. It was on sale on Gilt Groupe on Feb 18th, but I couldn't buy it because there was only a size 12 left. Sigh~~~~~ I cannot express my sorrow...I can only express my love for the dress by posting about it. Why do I like it? Because it is red. Because it is silk. Because I get to show off my back while remaining quite demure in the front. Because it has really interesting printed material at the waist. Because it has pleated details at the chest and let me tell you how much my modest bosoms need those pleated details.
Of course, the runway Badgley Mischka is more impressive. It has been 20 years since Mark Badgley and James Mischka joined hands to bring us Badgley Mischka, known for their heavenly dresses that any dress lover should know about. For Spring'09, they made everything feather light, and for Fall'09, it was serious glamor with lots of black pieces. I am voting for light and airy any day because that is my preference. But the Fall'09 collection has a couple of pieces that looked like it was Indian-inspired. I really like that too. Please check out their new Fall runway show at Style.com

I thought it's pretty funny that they set a four boots per household limit on these Uggs. Which household would need 4 of these? Do they need it as a uniform? A castle with fashionable maids forced to don Victorian-style clothings, perhaps? In any case, after a few minutes of looking at the Classic Tall Romantic Uggs, I actually don't hate it. It is rather interesting. Feels like a Ralph Lauren xUgg collaboration. But rest assured, my first reaction was most certainly an "UGGHH!!!!?!". And even though I don't hate it now, I certainly wouldn't buy these boots, let alone 4 pairs of them.
What do you think? Are these Uggs romantic as its name proposes, or are they UGGHH~!! ?

Fendi Multicolored Python Baguette
I usually love python bags but this rainbow colors Baguette from Fendi is really quite freaky. And I mean "I think I've had too much LSD" kind of freaky. How exactly did they manage to take two of the things I like (python and Fendi's Baguette bag) and make it into this god-awful concoction, I simply do not understand. Editor at net-a-porter says that it is a "stand-out investment piece that will compliment everything from neutrals to brights". Yea, sure...if you're Sarah Jessica Parker, it will do that. After all, she made her horse-looking face work on Sex and The City, and not to mention all those strange outfits with texture, shape, and color clashes. I think I will pass on this hallucinogen and stay sane and grounded with Lanvin's Happy Partage.
