Prada Natural Snake Print Deerskin Shopping Tote

BeautyTamaki got this bag as a gift for her birthday this year (back in June), and I have to say that the bag looks very handsome and attention-grabbing in person. Although it is deerskin made to look like python, it actually works for two reasons. Firstly, the snake print Prada produced looks amazing. The colors are pretty and the scales look realistic. Secondly, the sheen from the deerskin makes the snake print look a little like watersnake skin, which successfully elevates the bag from simply an embossed exotic to something that feels authentic and beautiful.

The Snake Print Deerskin Shopping Tote reminds me of the Tod's G Bag in Python that Jessica Alba wore to a Tod's party. There are some differences between the two bags though. The Prada bag has more of a smooth transition from front to bottom to side and will slouch like a bucket when filled and set down. On the other hand, the G bag has more of a defined bottom and is smaller on top so it will act more structured. Also, the G bag has buckle details on its sides and is made out of real python. Priced at $2,165, you may think that Tod's Python G bag is a better deal than the Prada Snake Print Deerskin tote. However, it is important to note that deerskin commands a high price because of its relative rarity and proven durability.

Prada is the one brand that has been using a lot of deerskin in the making of their bags. Deerskin feels thicker and fuller because deers have one of the toughest skin partially due to adaptations to their thorny and thicket filled habitats. Thus, it is very fitting that Prada would use deerskin to create its high-quality bags. The only drawback of using relatively heavy deerskin in a shopping tote is the incredible combined weight of the bag (the Prada bag weighs 3 lbs) plus all the "essentials" that a girl can fit in there.

Lastly, here are a couple of examples from Prada's arsenal of beautiful deerskin bags after the jump:

Going to Seattle - Prelude

Fishee and I are taking our moms (and Fishee's younger brother) on a road trip to Seattle today! We are passing by Seattle's Premium Outlet in the morning, and then going to Barneys and Nordstrom later in the afternoon and having dinner downtown with EC-chan. I'll be hunting for Rock and Republic denim for BeautyTamaki, and otherwise just enjoy browsing beautiful stuff at Barneys/Nordstrom. First of all, Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale starts today, so we'll be early birds! Also, if Barney's online sale is representative of what I might find in store, I'm really psyched! After all, they have pretty shoes such as this Stella McCartney Platform Sandal.

Isn't this shoe simply beautiful? Trust Stella to pair ivory lace with bling-bling in the shape of a bone. Having just shopped at Oakridge in Vancouver a few days ago, where there was nothing to feel excited about, I'm hoping this trip will be fruitful. In any case, I will report back at the end of the day with my conquests (if any), and items of lust-worthiness (if any).

Fergie Shoe Line: Merry, Quote, and Maxim

Fergie of Black Eye Peas (or Stacy Ferguson) may be the object of many plastic surgery rumors, but her new shoe line, launched in Spring 2009, has been quite affordable and on trend. Fergie's shoe line is filled with strappy sandals that she designs and wears too! I just saw this pair, the Fergie Merry, on Piperlime and loved semi-bootie, semi-sexy-pump look. It's really rather playful in a demure sort of way, don't you think? This would look great with a dress or a pair of skinny ankle pants. I want to throw on my cropped leather jacket for these shoes!

If you're not one to play quiet, perhaps Rachel Zoe's pick will work better for you. Rachel Zoe, the fashion stylist (and author) best known for working with celebrities and dressing them, picks out the shoes and bags that she likes at Piperlime. From Fergie's shoe line, Rachel Zoe's favorite was the Quote wedge sandals, which is perfect for the summer with its bright, interlocking, turquoise straps and cork wedge platform. People who bought it found it light and comfortable, so you can match it with jeans or a summer frock and rampage as much as you want under the sun.

And if you are one to look ahead, then the Fergie Maxim in Grape soda may be best for you as the grapey red will be great for Fall, especially since RED is absolutely the color of the season this year. It seems Fergie's first shoe collection has been interesting and trendy. Whether we will see mixed reviews down the line like in Jessica Simpson's shoe line, or a widely positive vibe for Fergie shoes in the future, at least there will be something to look forward to!

Right now, you can enjoy 20% off orders of $125 or more at Piperlime. Enter the code SUMMERFUN at checkout. Free shipping & free returns too. Ends July 21.

Long Flowy Dresses for Summer

Long flowy dresses are great for those summer events as they are light enough to match the sun and long enough to cover you from the chill/wind. Last Sunday, my family hosted a music recital/party and coincidentally, BeautyTamaki and I both turned up at the event in a long dress and a white cardigan without any previous coordination. 100 points for unspoken synchronicity!!

Club Monaco Sasha Silk Dress ~$200 at Retail

BeautyTamaki wore a beautiful graphic dress from Club Monaco that made my eyes spin from the illusion-inducing prints. I loved how demure and feminine the silk looks on BeautyTamaki, and the element of hallucinic danger from the graphics gave a layer of interest and fun to the dress. The Sasha Dress is like a hippie from the 70's who had stopped smoking weed and decided to drink English tea instead while sitting up very properly. BeautyTamaki was genius to accessorize with white, heart-shaped patterned earrings, and together with her white cardigan, highlighted the airy elegance of her dress.

As for me, I'm happy to say that I wore a dress from Forever 21 that received a lot of complements. Since I posted my maxi dress story at the end of May, I subsequently found the wonderful Satin Silk Bloom Maxi dress at Forever 21 for a steal. People at the party thought the dress was around $200!! And it is no wonder, because my dress was made out of silk and its colors are so vibrant and beautiful. My white cardigan contrasted the bright blue color and my white Steve Madden sandals continued the focus on the vibrancy of my dress. I also tied a gray ribbon around my waist as my belt to make a visual division on the long blue portion of the dress. The next time I wear this ensemble, I think I will do an updo and wear my feather hairband from Urban Outfitters, or find some gray accessories to match.

Alright, so which do you prefer? Vibrant color or airy graphics?

Update:
Eva Mendes was seen in a Tibi Fall 2009 maxi dress. Very pretty (I dig her gold belt). Luxaholic has more suggestions for maxis under $250. My favorite happens to be the cheapest of the bunch ($78) from Kimchi Blue of Urban Outfitters. I have a Kimchi Blue dress too and guys try to pick me up when I wore it. Kimchi Blue and Urban Outfitters ROCK!!!~
