Olympus FE-3010 12 Megapixel Digital Camera

I am racking my brains on what to get my mom for Mother's day (May 10th). And here are the two ideas I have. Diamonds, because they are supposedly a girl's best friend, and a magenta digital camera because well, it's pink. The diamonds are not really high quality (0.1 ct, I2 clarity, and k color) but it's really cheap at $50, which is just nice for my budget since I am unemployed. Otherwise, I could give her an Olympus digital camera, because she should have her own digital camera and hopefully, it will encourage her to travel as she has always wanted to (but never did). $150 is reasonable and the color pink is cute. However, I'm worried she won't be able to handle the technology...what to do, what to do? What are you getting for your mom this Mother's Day?

Converse & Havianas 30% OFF at ShoeSteal

$35.99 (31% OFF original price: $51.99)

A few weeks ago, I posted about Christian Louboutin coming out with sneakers, and wondered aloud what the point was in that. After all, we have Converse sneakers, which are sporty, unique, and generous all in one. The above sneakers, which don a little red riding hood on the side with mushrooms and birds, are simply adorable. I picked it out thinking chibi would reject it for its almost child-like cuteness, but he actually liked it!!! Seeing that his last special edition Converse has been worn out, we will be getting this pair of sneakers AND apparently, we will be doing good, because it's part of the RED movement, so part of the proceeds goes to The Global Fund to fight Aids, tuberculosis and malaria.

Havaianas Women's Slim Stripes
$14.99 (32% OFF original price: $22.00)

Havaianas Biege Golden Women's Slim
$14.99 (32% OFF original price: $21.99)

Next, I am getting a Havaianas thong sandal because I had to throw away the last one I bought from La Vie En Rose (Canada) for $3-$5. As you can imagine, a number of things can go wrong with a $3 sandal. For the black sandals I threw away, the cloth surface of the sandals came off and when I wore it, the bottom of my feet became black. For the one I gave chibi, the front part of the thong detached from the sandal and chibi fell, hurting his feet. (I'M SORRY, MY LOVE!!!)

Anyway, Havaianas sandals are popular worldwide but I always thought it was overpriced, so I didn't buy any in Taiwan. However, I think it's time to get one if not for the sake of our feet, then at least for the sake of testing out the hypothesis that not all sandals are made equal. Hopefully in a few months or a year, I can tell everyone decisively that Havaianas price is justified and a good investment to make. In the meantime, I am again lost about which color to buy. @_@

Ellen Christine Millinery on Juxzy

A specialized millinery brand is finally featured on a sample sale site after Aretha Franklin's hat-wearing at Obama's inauguration brought hats back to the attention of people everywhere. Since good hats are often very expensive, I think it is important that they are subjected to discounts along with all the other apparel and accessory items especially in the context of this economy, don't you think? These hats are not for everyone, of course. But people who dare to be more out there with their dress style will definitely love these. People like Dita von Teese, Christina Aguilera, and recently Drew Barrymore, all sport the old glamor look that would do well with these hats! I personally would like to try the gold vulture.

This 50% off sale lasts till May 4, 2009 10:00 am EST. Prices ranges from $142.50 to $450 (Originally: $285 to $900).

Email me at cutevoiceblog@gmail.com and I will send you an invitation to Juxzy.

----------------------------------------------------------
Description from Juxzy (invitation-only sample sale site):
The hats in this impressive collection have been created by Ellen Christine Colon-Lugo. Earning a devoted East Coast following, Ellen Christine hand-constructs hats that have unique appeal. She mixed antique textiles and trims to capture the fanciful nature of the modern woman. As Ellen Christine sculpts velvet roses or an organza brim, each hat seems to take on a life of its own. She imagines each hat "starring in a little movie." These movies are often interrupted by some matchmaking, as the milliner becomes stylist, transforming a browser into a buyer. "These are hats that are meant to be worn, not kept on a shelf. There's a dramatic character inside every person waiting to be dressed." Visit Ellen at www.ellenchristine.com

Cowboy Boots for $30

There are daily deals at 6pm.com, which are pretty damn amazing if you are looking for shoes. Of course, you won't be getting the newest fashion, but you will find some good basic finds.

For example, I found these amazing western style boots for only $29.95 (down from $200++) only from Saturday (4/25) till Sunday (4/26).

I'm really attracted by the studs on these cowboy boots. chibi likes the second one (Inspiratio) more, so I'm considering buying that one. However, the Goddess is more slender and the heels are a plus. So I really don't know.

The buckle and the patterned juxtaposition of the different materials makes these riding boots cool. With the same design and different material pairing, they really turned out looking like polar opposites. Oh, and the buckles have studs too!

You can find more awesome sales on the homepage of 6pm.com, but I decided to list them here (after the jump) for your convenience.

Flowers For Spring

Tarina Tarantino New Anywhere Clip Tan

Tarina Tarantino New Anywhere Clip Tan

Tarina Tarantino New Anywhere Clip Black

Tarina Tarantino New Anywhere Clip Black

A while ago, my friend A.J. was looking for a flower brooch as an accessory for her scarves, hats, and jackets, as well as to cover up an overly exposing keyhole on her Madison Marcus dress. We found a couple at J. Crew, Forever21, and tons of them at FlowersInTheCity. So, when I saw these flower clips at BlueBee.com, I thought of A.J. and had to post them up.

These clips have Swarovski crystals in them, which increases the bling value. Moreover, they supposedly clip anywhere. For example, you could wear it in your hair tucked under an updo + sexy dress, or you could wear it as a broach on your blouse, jacket, or scarf. A bit pricey at $45, but considering the crystals in them and the 20% discount (see below), it's actually a reasonable price!

Here's the good news. BlueBee has a sale going through Monday (April 27, 2009) which gives you and your visitors 20% off all women’s jewelry with code BBJWL20.

Restrictions: Not valid on international orders; no returns on fine jewelry, which is in our normal return policy and stated in the descriptions on those items considered fine jewelry

Carlos Falchi Fringed Hobo

What a beauty!

I've always been a fan of Carlos Falchi exotic bags (oh, his python slouch hobo and python clutches are sooo divine). With this fringed hobo, Carlos Falchi once again makes crocodile bag look AMAZING~. You can get this bag in the color "luggage" (caramel brown), but this fuchsia color is so hot, I think it is THE color to have this bag in.

It's all in the details. Carlos Falchi updates the handle on this hobo by using a goldtone cable shoulder strap instead of a leather strap. The front flap houses most of the fringe details that give the bag a lot of movement. At 11"H x 17"W x 6"D, this is a good-size functional bag with one zip and two cell phone pockets inside. Ok, it is pricey at $2,675.00, but not overly so as a crocodile bag. After all, Carlos Falchi is known for his relatively affordable exotic bags. If this came out of a Prada collection (no, they are not that good with exotic bags), this would cost at least a thousand or two more than$2,675.00.

Have you ever seen a fringe bag this hot, yet exuding simplicity and elegance? I haven't! Available at Bergdorf Goodman.

Christian Louboutin 'Super Woman' Over-the-knee Boots

Christian Louboutin
black patent 'Super Woman' over-the-knee boots
retail value: $ 1575.00
bluefly: $ 1260.00
10-hr clearance sale (extra 25% off): $ 757.49
you save 52% in total

So, I've been searching for fabulous thigh-high boots that I can use for years to come, and I happened across this Christian Louboutin 'Super Woman' over-the-knee boots at Bluefly's 10-hr clearance sale (with an extra 25% off). I simply had to show it to chibi, who said over msn "OMG wahhh...if it was lower i might consider...looks stunning". That rather shocked me because chibi usually consider plain things pretty, which means nothing with prints and nothing loud for him. These boots, however, are over-the-top and "stunning" in a very avant garde, super abstract art sort of way. Honestly, I wouldn't know how to wear them. Because they are so attention-grabbing, they would have to be the focus of the outfit. This means that you would probably want to wear these with super short hemlines and keep the apparrel as minimalistic as possible. I really wish to see someone make these 'super woman' boots work, perhaps with a plunging neckline mini LBD, healthy cleavage, and a bright blue clutch. *wide grin* Yesssss, that would be nice.

By the way, if you happen to want to buy something from Bluefly, use the coupon code 7PHPYFX or 8KXTCYW to get $30 off on orders more than $150*, and ANTRPDM for 10% off any apparel item*.

*Offer valid for 2 weeks only. Valid for one time use only by a single user on a minimum purchase of $150 or more. After promo code is redeemed on site it is no longer valid. Reductions will be reflected after the promo code is entered during checkout. Charges for gift certificates, gift wrap, shipping and handling, taxes, duties or similar charges cannot be applied towards the $150 minimum purchase level, and discount does not apply to these charges. Offer cannot be combined with other promotions, discounts, or promo codes. Reduced prices cannot be applied retroactively to purchases made prior to the start of this sale or to purchases made after the end of this sale. Promotion code not valid when using Google Checkout. This offer is non-transferable.

Rebecca Minkoff makes Green Marketing Effort look bad

Rebecca Minkoff, I love your morning after bags and studded clutches, but the "bread and wine" totes are a disappointment. The blue canvas tote on the right is $72 on Bluefly, and the royal canvas and leather tote on the left is a whooping $111. The words "WINE" and "BREAD" are slapped over the fronts of the bags, and Rebecca Minkoff's name is plastered in big letters on the sides of the blue canvas tote. "Big on style" indeed.

Recall that the "movement" for carrying fashionable shopping bags was started by Anya Hindmarch's "I'm not a plastic bag" bag, which was sold out worldwide and spun off tons of imitation bags (at least in Asia). Recall that the "I'm not a plastic bag" bag only cost around USD $15. Since then, a number of brand names including Marc by Marc Jacobs and Juicy Couture, has come out with "green bags", and I got tired of telling people about the ridiculous prices on them.

If you really wanted to save the world, you would buy one less tote and reuse the ones you have religiously until you've worn them out. If you never reuse your totes, buying yet another pricey "green tote" is just additional burden to the ecology of the world. PLUS, if you really wanted to help the earth, you would buy an inexpensive reusable tote like this one below (from Old Navy) and donate the rest of your money to organizations that are cleaning up the earth, or working towards innovations that will save energy. Better yet, you can use your money to buy organic and ecological products on the market (since they are still really pricey due to under-production) and help bring the green market to its market efficiency levels.

Women: Women's Eco-Graphic Totes - Pink

Women: Women's Eco-Graphic Totes - Pink

Available in 6 colors/designs.

By the way, not all shopping totes are "green". Some of them do not use recycled material, some of them are made out of thicker plastic material that sits in the landfill for a longer time, and some of them stay in people's closet never seeing the light of day. I am just saying...sometimes, it is the dubious "green" marketing efforts of otherwise trusted companies that put off the public and make all "green activities" look bad. Sure, all firms are created to maximize profits. Can this be done while minding our impact on earth? I sure hope so.

The New Pant Shape - Harem Pants and Jumpsuits

I usually post so many dresses, I thought I would post pants today. The harem pant trend and jumpsuit rage is most probably in passing, but while we are here, I wonder how many of us will be brave enough to venture. The interesting thing is, designers all know that this trend is not something to be tried by women who are not stick-thin like models on the runway. The proof being that these new arrivals at RevolveClothing are all stocked in small to very small sizes. The Bensoni Jumpsuit is available in 0, 2, and 4. Jill Stuart is only available in a 4. MCQ has slightly bigger sizes (38/XS, 40/S, and 42/M for the jumpsuit, while the harem pants go up to 44/L). Zimmermann jumpsuit and lounge pants are both only stocked in 0/XS, and 1/S.

I actually do like this trend and have been dying to try it. Even if I look like a sack of potatoes, I will still like wearing these because I've always been into the feeling of wearing overalls. These items I featured here are all very high-quality and thus the prices are also out of my puny budget, especially since this is a seasonal trend and will eventually pass in no more than 2 seasons. I will have to stick to lower-end jumpsuits and harem pants from budget stores like H&M/Forever21. For those brave enough to try out this trend, I am thinking that this is one item you may want to try out IN-STORE instead of buying online. Just in case, the lack of definition looks horrible on you. To be fair, Jill Stuart's and MCQ's jumpsuits are both quite defined among this bunch, don't you think?

Horny Marni Accessories

Remember my post on Marni's Spring 2009 RTW collection?

Now, those wonderfully unique accessories on the runway has arrived in stores and I am having a field day purviewing them online.

The colors on this neckpiece come together brilliantly, and anyone who wears this is bound to stand out in the crowd.

Horn ruffle bracelet $290

Solid ruffles!? There are better pictures at the net-a-porter site, but the horn has beautiful patterns running through it, giving it an other-worldly aesthetic. Is it just me, or is there an amethyst-colored galaxy within this bracelet?

Horn embellished neckpiece $865

I really like this neckpiece because of its bib-like shape (very 'in' right now), but honestly, it won't be easy to wear because the two big pieces of horn will sit on the clavicle and the neckpiece will not be able to rest easily around your neck.

Also a bib-like shape. Since this one is on the dark side, it's best to pair it with bright colors, and it will be sure to provide a bold contrast for you.

More items I really loved from Marni this season after the jump:

These awesome platforms...also from the runway...

...and this amazingly-shaped clutch. You've gotta admit the proportion of this clutch is as adorable as a dwarf dog...or the one-eyed monster, Mike, from Monster Inc.
