American Apparel and Adia Kibur: what they have in common

I really think this blog could also be named the "What tempts me today" blog...

From Hautelook, this matching nude-colored Loop Terry Zip Jacket ($19) and Mini Skirt ($9) among a bunch of other colorful American Apparel really tempted me today. How understated and sexy is wearing this to play badminton, tennis, or golf? And they are so cheap. >_<~ I'm a sucker for nude tones... On the other hand, Gilt Fuse has some great jewelry Erica Anenberg, A Squared by Alex and Ani, and Adia Kibur. I particularly like the necklaces from the Nadia Lee for Adia Kibur collection. Adia Kibur has been featured in Lucky for their bib necklaces before. For me, the attraction is in the sophisticated undertones and art deco feel in their jewelry. I would feel like a modern woman who knows what she wants wearing these:

In summary, American Apparel and Adia Kibur may seems day and night (both literally and metaphorically), but they both starts with the letter "A" and they both tempted me so badly that I felt the need to blog about them today. OK~! That was a pretty lame way to tie this all together, and unfortunately, it is the truth, so we'll leave it at that... ^_^""

Y Yigal - wonderful shades of blue

As you all know, I just bought a blue dress, a tight, form-fighting thing that's great for clubbing. But there are times when slouchy chic is much more appropriate. At classy events and parties, you want to appear elegant and not trying too hard. So when I saw these blue Y Yigal dresses at Gilt Groupe, I truly felt torn and wanted to return my dress. The Y Yigal dresses are approximately 65% off on Gilt right now, which makes them affordable!

Y Yigal is an Israeli-born, New York-based designer, draped in critical praise. The self-taught Yigal AzrouĆ«l launched his eponymous womenswear collection in 1998 with a line of draped, cascading cuts that evoked a fluid feminine aesthetic. The designer’s effortlessly chic style has made him a favorite of Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, and his collection is often spotted in the editorial spreads of Vogue, W and Harper’s Bazaar.

On another note, I really like the vintage look of this Ted Baker shoes on Gilt Man:I wonder if chibi would like it too...?

Inexpensive Over-The-Knee Boots

Sexy over-the-knee boots (aka OTK boots or thigh-high boots) are all over the place this Fall/Winter, but if you are a frugal shopper like me, you will be gawking at the $500 and above price tag on many of these hot hot boots. (Saying "hot" twice makes it hotter.)

From all my finds, here are my favorites (and most inexpensive).

Two Lips - Kitty Kat (Black Suede) - Footwear

Two Lips - Kinky (Black) - Footwear

From my point of view, these two pairs of shoes from Two Lips are almost identical, except Kinky has higher heels (4" instead of 3 1/4"), a 1/2 inch platform, and an extra buckle. Well, there is also the $70 price difference of course. But that means you look taller, sexier and edgier in the Kinky. Both made out of suede, the Kitty Kat comes in five colors while Kinky only comes in grey and black. I bought the Kinky and wore it for the first time during my birthday (Halloween) with fishnet stockings. Obviously, I wouldn't wear it with fishnet stockings any other day but Halloween~! Anyway, it is one HOT pair of shoes...I mean, I was hot. The ribbon lace-up detail at the back of the boot shaft adds a very feminine and unique touch that you don't get with many OTK boots out there today. However, I am still on the fence about whether I should have gotten the Kitty Kat instead, because Kinky's 4" heels were a little challenging for a klutz like me. Also, I wish the shaft would be longer because I wanted it higher up my thighs than just simply over-the-knee. It was otherwise a very satisfactory buy and I hope to wear it out often!!

Here is another straightforward boots to fall in love with. The only unfortunate thing about these boots is the faux leather upper because you simply can't buy real leather boots at this price. With a 24" shaft, this will go higher up your thighs, so you can wear shorter hemlines in accompaniment. Pros are the 3/4 inch platform, cushioned insoles, and flat traction outsole. The 4 1/2 inch stiletto heel is something that could be considered a pro or a con depending on personal preference. Honestly though, I don't see the point of wearing OTK boots without heels. There is just that much more OOMPH!~ when there are sky high heels to go with the sky high boots! And if you MUST choose something with minimal or no heels, at least go with something interesting like the Matisse Buccaneer below. It is a little pricier than the other ones I featured, but I'm convinced it is the only way to go with flat OTK boots.

Grey Winter Wear

I know I just did a post on electric dresses, but there is this diametric part of myself that loves grey and loves it even more on warm warm winter wear (I'm in winter wear A LOT!). I have this grey cardigan from Wallace that I wear ALL THE TIME. But it's a thin material and I wish I have a chunky cardigan for this Fall. After all, chunky sweaters are totally in this year. This one from A/X is basic without much fanfare, but that's the way I like it and it is an extra 20% off its sale price right now. If you don't already have something basic like that, it's a definite must-buy.

Also, for the longest time, I have wanted a swing coat that is girly but not overly so. I saw this PERFECT one at A/X since it is GREY, a very neutral color, and its proportions are so flattering! Just look at it from the back. The three buttons detail down the middle of the full skirt brings your eyes straight to the lines of that fitted bodice. This is officially high up on my wishlist.

Just a reminder, A/X is now having a promotion where you get a free scarf with $100 purchase while supplies last. Hurry if you want an extra something on top of those dresses for the holiday seasons. Use code AXSCARF during checkout.

In love with electric pleats

I have absolutely fallen in love with highly charged colors on fitted cocktail dresses. Despite being monochromic, they are attention-grabbing and easy-to-wear. Oh so glamorous~! And saturated colors are great for this Fall season. I especially love it when there are architectural details like these two dresses from A/X. I've always been a sucker for origami dresses and asymmetry pleats. In fact, I just bought on Monday an electric royal blue dress with asymmetrical pleats. I can't wait to wear it. Anyway, A/X is now having a promotion where you get a free scarf with $100 purchase while supplies last. Hurry if you want an extra something on top of those dresses for the holiday seasons.
