Prada Natural Snake Print Deerskin Shopping Tote

BeautyTamaki got this bag as a gift for her birthday this year (back in June), and I have to say that the bag looks very handsome and attention-grabbing in person. Although it is deerskin made to look like python, it actually works for two reasons. Firstly, the snake print Prada produced looks amazing. The colors are pretty and the scales look realistic. Secondly, the sheen from the deerskin makes the snake print look a little like watersnake skin, which successfully elevates the bag from simply an embossed exotic to something that feels authentic and beautiful.

The Snake Print Deerskin Shopping Tote reminds me of the Tod's G Bag in Python that Jessica Alba wore to a Tod's party. There are some differences between the two bags though. The Prada bag has more of a smooth transition from front to bottom to side and will slouch like a bucket when filled and set down. On the other hand, the G bag has more of a defined bottom and is smaller on top so it will act more structured. Also, the G bag has buckle details on its sides and is made out of real python. Priced at $2,165, you may think that Tod's Python G bag is a better deal than the Prada Snake Print Deerskin tote. However, it is important to note that deerskin commands a high price because of its relative rarity and proven durability.

Prada is the one brand that has been using a lot of deerskin in the making of their bags. Deerskin feels thicker and fuller because deers have one of the toughest skin partially due to adaptations to their thorny and thicket filled habitats. Thus, it is very fitting that Prada would use deerskin to create its high-quality bags. The only drawback of using relatively heavy deerskin in a shopping tote is the incredible combined weight of the bag (the Prada bag weighs 3 lbs) plus all the "essentials" that a girl can fit in there.

Lastly, here are a couple of examples from Prada's arsenal of beautiful deerskin bags after the jump:

RueLaLa Sales

RueLala.com, one of the sample sale sites, just had an entirely sold out Shoshanna sale. Its Prada sale boutique is almost sold out too. Another piece of evidence that the recession did not wipe out all the money in people's pockets. For those of you who are not a member yet, click here to join. Why should you join? Because tomorrow, there will ba a La Perla and Cynthia Rowley sale, and the day after that, there will be a Nanette Lepore sale. These are definitely not to be missed!

Their Carmen Marc Valvo sale was really successful too, and I am currently lusting after this dress below. The Taupe Tiered Dress was originally $640, and now it is $199. The sale is ending 8am Pacific Time, and I'm REALLLLY struggling~~~. Sigh~~ It's so delectable, what should I do?

Prada Vitello Shine Tote

The Vitello Shine Tote is made out of denim calf leather. No, that is not a new material combining leather with denim (cotton). It is merely calf leather that is in the color of "denim". Honestly, I don't see jeans in that color often, but let's not be literal here. It has a snap closure, double top handles, inside and outside zip pockets, and removable chain detail. Measuring at 12"H x 15"W x 7 1/4"D, this is a good sized bag with details that I have never seen from Prada!!! Where did this come from?

I'm totally blind-sided by how this bag looks more like something from the Miu Miu collection than the Prada collection. Especially since the rest of Prada's Spring Runway bags look like this.

There is also a Vitello Shine Bowler (in brown and grey), but it isn't half as young and fresh as the Vitello Shine Tote in Denim. For the most part, it is the denim color that makes the Vitello Tote youthful. (There is also the fact that bowler bags are carried by an older demographic.) But back to my point.

The Vitello tote in denim stands out from Prada's collection for being more chic than usual, and it is also very functional with the outside pocket details. I really do welcome the change and hope hope hope it will continue. I am even willing to accept the inevitable increase in weight because of the decorative hardware. Despite Prada being overpriced and frumpy (or simply strange) most of the time now, no one will argue that they make quality bags, and thus, any occassional good taste on Prada's part will turn out AMAZING bags. In sum, I would LOVE to carry the Vitello Shine Tote in denim, and I would be absolutely proud to have caught Prada on good design behavior.

Prada Jeweled Cherrvo Dome Bag a military landmine

The description for this bag goes as follows:

"Military python. Shoulder straps; buckle detail. Zip top. Allover black jewel detail. Hanging luggage tag. Made in Italy. Not available in California. "

How fitting that the material is called "military python" (whatever that means), especially since bag itself looks like a landmine that may go off at any time! I am aware of designers' attempts to bring more texture and more details into designer bags (think Valentino bags~), and Prada has been hit and miss most of the time, but this bag really pains me and all the old Prada bags I have in my closet. The black jewel detail set on the "military" python backdrop just feels like warts on a toad or acne scars filled with pus, which makes the bag perfect for attacking someone, but definitely not as a fashion statement. Honestly, why would Prada think that sticking some black jewels at regular intervals onto really expensive python skin makes a good bag? All the black jewels do is to distract from the skin itself!!

For $5,100, you can preorder this Dome Bag at Bergdorf Goodman, though it's more like a "Doomed bag" more than a "Dome Bag", because I really don't see the dome-ness of its shape. That said, I can see how some people will end up liking this bag, as they stare long enough at the jeweled landmine and explode some amount of crazy in their brain.

Thank God, Python is not available in California, so I won't come across this bag in store any time soon. Now, Prada seems to have "jewelled" a number of its bag for the Spring collection, but rest assured, none is as senseless as the Cherrvo Dome bag. In fact, the Jeweled Whipsnake Clutch ($1,295) is really rather cute.

Coral: An alternative to pink

Sure, pink is fresh and bright, but when it comes time to be subtle and sophisticated, nothing can beat the color CORAL. Since I saw the Mulberry Agyness in Coral last year, I've been fans of the color since.

Mulberry did it with its oversized Roxanne Tote and Agyness bag.

Miu Miu did it with accessories - Headband, Keychain, Belt.

Prada did it with their Cervo Totes and Crispy Clutch.

Among celebrities, Cameron Diaz did it, Paula Abdul did it, Ali Larter, Fergie, and Nelly Furtado all did it. The color Coral has also been a great cheek and lip color for years, and I am glad to see more coral dresses and bags appearing as of late. However, good looking coral shoes are hard to find. So I'm really happy when I saw these.

Prada Resort 2009 Bags

Since I did a post on Miu Miu bags, I thought I would do one on Prada too. Prada Resort 2009 bag collection can now be found on Neiman Marcus and there is a clear continuation of elements found in the Fall 2008 bag collection. Here are some bags from the Resort collection.

Ruffled Chain-Strap Tote $1295.00

After the Nappa S Ruffled Clutch from Fall'08, Prada seems to think that there just wasn't enough ruffles. Therefore, for Resort'09, we now have a tote that is overly adorned with ruffles. It is in black (a sane color) so my violent reactions to this bag is mitigated.

Vitello Mordore'A Hobo $2490.00

Don't laugh, but there is a bag called the "EW tote" from Fall'08. It is in the same family as the Vitello Mordore'A Hobo in that they both have the same basketweave, or should I call it, scales. It is a shame, really, because I like the shape and color of the Vitello Mordore'A Hobo, but it is just too scaly for my taste.

Degrede Clutch $1250.00

This clutch reminds me of the big flashy weddings Indonesian Chinese are prone to having. At those weddings, you will find big living fashion from a decade ago. Women's hair is big and tall. Makeup is unapologetically dramatic, unnatural, and gaudy. Their dresses are equally loud in terms of color and shine. Embellishments are overflowing on dresses and bling bling is worn all over as if anyone can stand the glare and disco lights reflected off of those gowns. @_@ Ok, fine, by comparison, the Degrede clutch is much more tasteful, even if it looks a little like art project glitter. I like this bag, as long as it doesn't go with loud shiny dresses.

Vitello Daino Two-Pocket Tote $1595.00

Well, this is not necessarily a new shape, as the two-pocket design has been done in volumes in Fall'08. However, I posted the Vitello Daino two-pocket tote because it's purple!! And this time, instead of a somber berry/burgundy color, Prada gave us amethyst purple!! Oh happy days~. I will post another post tomorrow with a clutch from Le Chateau in this exact shade of purple and also incorporates the ruffle trend in a sensible manner.
